Conventionally a coin has two sides - head and tail. And similarly, mostly, there are two points of view. But just like a coin can be viewed from the 3rd side, similarly i have found that there is invariably a third point of view - mine. Welcome to my point of view - where you will see things as i see them. Sure, my way may be flawed...and probably is (i wear glasses) but its still the way i see it.

VITEEE 2009 counselling
Morning 9am everyone turns up at their auditorium and are seated. A projector hooked up to a laptop projects a continou and live feed of the number of seats available in all branches. There is a team of Proffs from every department and the chief hostel warden to answer any queries you may have regarding the institute or any course. The candidates/students have to register themselves i.e. sign their attendance and then they are given 3 sheets to fill up about their biodata and marks and an undertaking for good behaviour. After that, they have a preliminary medical checkup which is basically a recording of your height and weight.
After that, students are called in batches of around 150-200 ranks and are taken to another smaller auditorium (airconditioned) where their marksheets and other documents are verified.
Then, in smaller batches of 6 or so, they are taken to the next AC rom where two questions are asked. The first being the more important one is the same secret question that you have to answer correctly to proced to any of the above auditoriums. The question is "DD hai?" and the correct answer is YES. The only other question he will ask you is What branch do you want?
After branch allotment and submision of the DD, i was given a reciept and a provisional admission letter and sent for another medical checkup, which comprised of basically a blood test, urine test and record of BP and an interview session with one of their doctors at the Health Centre who will ask you about allergies etc, if any.
Then, it took us another 3 hours of standing in line to advance book a hostel and we were done.
A reminder was given to be sure to pay the balance fees by so and so date and thats it.
With this ends the counselling. The counselling process itself is a piece of cake, its the long waiting that is very exhausting. However kudos to VIT for making almost all of it a very smooth process.

On Ghosts And The Supernatural
And disproving the existence of such creatures is also a concept that man has thought about for centuries. Men of brains and science have forever been attempting to prove that the supernatural does not exist and there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark.
My belief is that they are both correct.
The supernatural does exist, for i have myself felt their existence more than once. I believe the reason that children come up with the most ghost stories is because they are the most receptive to what the world around them is trying to tell them. As we grow up, we are taught by the society around us to ignore anything that is not accepted by society as "normal" and "natural" else face the consequences of being outcasts of society.
However, why is it that the supernatural cannot exist? There is not law that states so. The oldest texts we have in existence are religious texts and be they of whatever religion, they have excerpts of instances where the people have met and conversed with the supernatural.
As a child, like all children, i could hear whispers in the shadows and see creatures in the dark. There was a time when i would run from lightbulb to lightbulb after sunset. As i grew, i learnt to ignore them and now, i am totally at peace with dark as well as dim lighting.
I have given considerable thought to the subject and my belief quite simply is this -
Ghosts exist and they are not bound by the laws that govern us creatures . However, not unlike us, they too are bound by laws that govern their existence and the primary law, according to me would be that they may not interfere in out existence directly. That is to say, you may feel the presence of a ghost, hear its whispers, but you may not be kidnapped by one. A ghost cannot physically harm you directly, and similarly, may not help you physically. Their plane of existence is a separate one and though it overlaps with ours, there is sufficient distinction to give them their own separate identity and us ours.
This also means that guardian angels exist. People who we truly love do live in our hearts. I believe if they are given enough reason to, the it is possible that they come back from the afterlife and watch over us. Prayers and God i will write about later, but prayers do get answered and if you send a heartfelt prayer then God will send an Angle to answer it. An angel's existence would be similar to that of a ghost - they would be on a different plane altogether and a guardian angel cannot pull you out of the way of an oncoming truck if you decide to stand there and test him. However, if you keep yourself in tune with nature and keep an ear out, you would have noticed the truck by now. Jump and the Angel will ensure that you escape with a few cuts and bruises and maybe a broken bone at the maximum.
After all that rambling, i shall now attempt to marshall my thoughts.
Supernatural creatures exist and it is possible to feel their existence. If you wake up in the middle of the night and see a ghostly white apparition next to your bed, you will not be able to shake hands with it, but if you are can learn their language, you shall be able to have a midnight chat with it.
So, the next time, you get a prickly feeling at the base of your neck and there is not a soul in sight, just recall, sight is also a relative concept. Someone or something, is always watching.

Oxygen - Toxic Gas
Subject: Toxic gas
Oxygen is a very toxic gas and an extreme fire hazard. It is fatal in
concentrations of as little as 0.000001 p.p.m(per parts million). Humans exposed to the
oxygen concentrations die within a few minutes. Symptoms resemble very
much those of cyanide poisoning (blue face, etc.). In higher
concentrations, e.g. 20%, the toxic effect is somewhat delayed and it
takes about 2.5 billion inhalations before death takes place. The reason
for the delay is the difference in the mechanism of the toxic effect of
oxygen in 20% concentration. It apparently contributes to a complex
process called aging, of which very little is known, except that it is
always fatal.
However, the main disadvantage of the 20% oxygen concentration is in the
fact it is habit forming. The first inhalation (occurring at birth) is
sufficient to make oxygen addiction permanent. After that, any
considerable decrease in the daily oxygen doses results in death with
symptoms resembling those of cyanide poisoning.
Oxygen is an extreme fire hazard. All of the fires that were reported in
the continental U.S. for the period of the past 25 years were found to be
due to the presence of this gas in the atmosphere surrounding the buildings
in question.
Oxygen is especially dangerous because it is odorless, colorless and
tasteless, so that its presence cannot be readily detected until it is
too late.

The Werewolf's Call
the harsh winter wind chilling me to the bone
for the fire that was within me, had all but died out
the day with him, you started going out.
upon my honour, i could not believe
that life could play a trick like this, making all seem so bleak
as i gazed at the full moon, eclipsed by a cloud
twas but a reflection of how the hopes in my heart
were covered with a shroud
almost unconsciously,
i joined the werewolves howl against the full moon
and its false promises of hope...which turned to despair to be followed by gloom.
however, should you even remember me, dearest!
in my heart, you will always be the one i hold nearest.
And,
when you return as i know you will have to,
i wil be running the forest on all fours.
but your gentle touch and soft velvet kiss
will turn me back from this monster,
... and nothing will be amiss.

An Introduction To The Collision Theory
Let us start with what is a collision? Simply put, a collision is what occurs when two bodies having mass attempt to occupy the same coordinates in space at the same point in time. Since this is not possible, it results in what is known as a collision. If either or both the bodies are human, then this invariably is accompanied by sound waves comprising signals that our detected by our human ears as "Ouch!", "Aah!, "That hurt", "Look where you are going!", "Stupid!", "Idiot!", "Are you blind?!", and/or various other expletives.
A very common and apt example of a collision is what is popularly known to the laymen as a "punch". This occurs when some smart Alec feels the need to push his jawline (or other vulnerable part of his body) in to the coordinates of 3D space which is being attempted to be occupied by another persons closed fist. Needless to say, mostly such an attempt is painful and leads the person whose fist was there to try it himself too. Whereupon nearby creatures intervene and create/apply a repulsive force strong enough to separate the two of them. Thus, the two mutually injured persons part, often not on very good terms due to the failure of their experiments on the collision theory.
With respect to the human civilization, collisions are a very important part of life. So much so that young homo-sapiens have an inherent instinct towards calculating (without external help) exactly what should be their velocity when they attempt to occupy what point in space and thus cause maximum damage to any who stand in their way. Indeed, perhaps this is the origin of the word "headstrong" as their heads do seem extremely strong when they crash it into the region of your pelvis, oblivious to the fact that unfortunate you had no idea that your paths would cross.
As the young 'uns grow, they learn to exploit the power of collision in more ways than one. I shall discuss a few of them here.
Firstly of course, games and sports make very good use of collisions. One such example would be cricket. American football is another prime example, as are soccer and baseball.
Another prime purpose their in-depth knowledge of collisions students put to, is in harassing their teachers and/or professors. Taking up assault positions at the back of the class so as to have a wider view of the battlefield ahead of them, they time and launch small missiles of a commonly available chemical compound - Calcium Carbonate. This compound, being a small white (in some cases colored) hard object is often successful in delivering a weary student with a welcome exit from the class, whereupon they proceed to practice and hone their knowledge of collisions by one of the earlier methods (cricket, football, etc)
I think that shall be all for today. Perhaps, after a sufficiently long length of time has passed, we may delve deeper into this extremely interesting branch of physics.
Thank you for attending this lecture of mine. It has been a great pleasure.

Evil exists in the hearts of man
There is no evil in any animal. A tiger kills - it hunts for food. It is in its nature to do so and it is the only way it can stay alive. No animal ever attacks unless for one of the two following reasons -
1. for food
2. if it feels threatened.
They go by their primal instincts and follow the law of nature - thou shalt not attack unless it be for food or for thy or thy kinsmans life.
The human race, on the other hand has "evolved" so it can think and analyze.
Sadly, this analysis led many individuals to believe that they should get what they want simply because they exist and have been born one of the elite human race. They feel this mere existence of theirs means they have a right to whatever they want and sadly, being an "evolved" species, they have the brains and ability to take whatever they want from those weaker than them. In the jungle, buliies exist, but they do not continously torture their victims and take pleasure in it. Dunking heads in the toilets is a concept thought out by man to fulfill his huge ego and make him feel better by making others feel bad. The leader of the pack eats first and if food is scarce, some of those lower in rank may go hungry, but the alpha does not hoard the food once he is full just to fulfill his ego and call himself rich while the rest of his pack dies, which sadly, is what some "humans" take pride and pleasure in.
A very close friend of my dad did a paper on some tribals in Africa - the [sarcasm]"uncivilised barbaric"[/sarcasm] races that still exist. They never lock their doors. Everybody helps one another. They do not even have the concept of "rich" and "poor" at all. Whatever they have belongs to their community as a whole. Most of the "civilized" world looks down at them but personally i think they live a better life. Can you even imagine not locking your house if you go to the store down the street?
Also, im a young chap, not even 18 as yet, but never have i seen any animal attack unless threatened. We have a lot of stray dogs here and every year there is a case wherein atleast one child recieves a bite. People blame the dogs but its not their fault. The blasted children trouble them, pulling their tails and whatnot. People stone them and kick out at them but they run away as long as its possible. The case occurs beacuse these darn kids trouble the pups and the pups cannot run away. So the mother attacks and it gives enough warning too - growling for a long time before it even comes near.
And it is always a select group, one of whom gets the bite. The rest of us dont bother the dogs and they dont bother us. I walk by them everyday on the way to school and pass by the same pups and their mother. She used to growl at me, but now that she has seen that i do no harm, she doesnt say anything so long as i mind my own business. My younger brother and his friends play in a park adjoining the road where these pups live. They never have a problem. Their parents have told them not to bother the pups. The pups have been told not to bother the children. They coexist in harmony.
Compare this to the cases of bullying that you hear about. Street gangs who beat up children for no reason except to "be cool". In my opinion, the "uncool" nerdy idiot who is polite to his teachers and elders and people on the street and does not feel the to vandalise or destroy property and does not pick on other weaker kids simply because he is stronger is a much better person.
I am extremely sad about this, but this is what the human race is like. And if this is so, then i'd rather live with the animals in the jungle.
But there is hope yet,
if you can use the gift given to humankind - the same ability to think and analyze that has brought us to this degraded state, the there is still hope. For you can be the beginning of a new race, a new civilisation which does not tread this path. That is the best we can do. All the talk about changing the world is nothing - just talk.
Be the change. Be the new race. Try your best. Trust me - it will be enough.
In my opinion, homo sapiens can be divided into two races -
those that carry evil in their hearts
and those that are carried by the evil in their hearts
The first belong to the humane race and the second belong to the human race, and it is your choice which race you wish to belong to.
