The Path Well Trodden

To get attendance we sit in class
our minds blank, clear as glass
Turn up the music in our ears
as confined here we waste four years
Society approves, calls it learning
in reality it's just money burning
because education has been capitalized
institutions are all privatized
make a hefty "donation" and admission is "Free"
Four years later, collect your degree
concept is a foreign word
rare like an exotic bird
few have seen it and fewer still
care about it and in themselves instill
a thirst for knowledge, a passion for learning
the rest only care about earning
but why would a company pay well for a job
performed by one with sense comparable to a corn on cob

So if you're on this well trodden path
and yearn for success
Go take a bath
and start afresh

Ensnared in Dreams

Welcome stranger to my lair
where we build castles in the air
but to realize them, do you dare?

Step inside, you'll feel fine
up here on cloud number nine
we have the finest bottles of wine

Gin and tonic and champagne
will make you forget all your pain
Dreamland Express starts here, don't miss the train!

On Ghosts And The Supernatural

The concept of the supernatural is one that man has thought about for centuries. That there exist souls, angels, demons, ghosts, and myriad other creatures of varying amounts of power living on varying planes of existence.
And disproving the existence of such creatures is also a concept that man has thought about for centuries. Men of brains and science have forever been attempting to prove that the supernatural does not exist and there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark.

My belief is that they are both correct.

The supernatural does exist, for i have myself felt their existence more than once. I believe the reason that children come up with the most ghost stories is because they are the most receptive to what the world around them is trying to tell them. As we grow up, we are taught by the society around us to ignore anything that is not accepted by society as "normal" and "natural" else face the consequences of being outcasts of society.

However, why is it that the supernatural cannot exist? There is not law that states so. The oldest texts we have in existence are religious texts and be they of whatever religion, they have excerpts of instances where the people have met and conversed with the supernatural.

As a child, like all children, i could hear whispers in the shadows and see creatures in the dark. There was a time when i would run from lightbulb to lightbulb after sunset. As i grew, i learnt to ignore them and now, i am totally at peace with dark as well as dim lighting.

I have given considerable thought to the subject and my belief quite simply is this -
Ghosts exist and they are not bound by the laws that govern us creatures . However, not unlike us, they too are bound by laws that govern their existence and the primary law, according to me would be that they may not interfere in out existence directly. That is to say, you may feel the presence of a ghost, hear its whispers, but you may not be kidnapped by one. A ghost cannot physically harm you directly, and similarly, may not help you physically. Their plane of existence is a separate one and though it overlaps with ours, there is sufficient distinction to give them their own separate identity and us ours.

This also means that guardian angels exist. People who we truly love do live in our hearts. I believe if they are given enough reason to, the it is possible that they come back from the afterlife and watch over us. Prayers and God i will write about later, but prayers do get answered and if you send a heartfelt prayer then God will send an Angle to answer it. An angel's existence would be similar to that of a ghost - they would be on a different plane altogether and a guardian angel cannot pull you out of the way of an oncoming truck if you decide to stand there and test him. However, if you keep yourself in tune with nature and keep an ear out, you would have noticed the truck by now. Jump and the Angel will ensure that you escape with a few cuts and bruises and maybe a broken bone at the maximum.

After all that rambling, i shall now attempt to marshall my thoughts.
Supernatural creatures exist and it is possible to feel their existence. If you wake up in the middle of the night and see a ghostly white apparition next to your bed, you will not be able to shake hands with it, but if you are can learn their language, you shall be able to have a midnight chat with it.
So, the next time, you get a prickly feeling at the base of your neck and there is not a soul in sight, just recall, sight is also a relative concept. Someone or something, is always watching.

SuperMe

For a long time now...i have had this haunting feeling that i am different...I look, talk, and walk just like any other normal human being...but deep within me i have always had this feeling...that i am more...i am different...
If human beings are the mundane homo sapiens then i am homo supremus. The fact remains that although i have managed to hide it for the last so many years...it is becoming increasingly difficult to fit in...to fake it...to pretend...
Every second of the day, i am having to live in this mortal fear, that should my superpower become known, i shall have to flee...i cannot afford to put my loved ones in such danger...

But then i think...since i have been blessed with such power, is it not my duty to use it to help the weak, poor and downtrodden?..the poor creatures floundering in the dark awaiting the one who will flip the light switch for them...

I have decided..i shall be the messiah...the one to lead the way...i shall utilize my blessing and be the one...

Pardon? You wish to know what exactly is my superpower?
It is a gerat power...kept secret throughout the years...lying latent untill one with the capabilities and will to use it appears...
It is.... COMMON SENSE...

In Defence of Teenagers (Part 2)

((...continued...))

4. Indoor people - You say its not nice for us to be indoor people. That instead of staring at a screen all day and spoiling our eyes and becoming obese, we should go out and play. What happens when we attempt that? You, yes you hae a problem with that too. Apparently, we break your flower pots. Here's the catch. The pots are in the middle of the playing area. Of course they break. Why dont you do your gardening in your own homes instead of encroaching upon public property? Then you complain that we break your windows. That may happen once in a while, i agree but then you are the guys who plan the housing and development,...not us. Plan sensibly so that there is a place for the kids to play....You dont let us play and then you complain how all we do is sit inside all day long.

EDIT (to add more points as Amanat has pointed out dated 21/03/'09):

5.Maturity regarding career path - Just how dumb do you think we are? And in case you have an extremely low opinion of our IQ or thinking capabilities, just remind yourself that its your grey cells we have inherited...we didnt buy out brains from the supermarket...we got them from you and if you think we dont have any, then...well..you get the idea dont you?
Teens, by the time they have to make a career choice are not only well aware of a wide array of careers available, they are also well aware of how much these careers pay, how much is their inclination/aptitude for these careers and the path to reach that career goal. So, instead of trying to emphasise on your all round knowlege, just guide us by playing along and helping us out when we ask you for help instead of trying to opinionate us before you even know what we are thinking of pursuing. Believe me, we know that you wont be there to feed us forever and we need to make a living. And given the prevailing adult opnion of how much kids expect (e.g. cool cell phones, random movies, branded clothes only etc...etc...), i should think you would realise that we are very much worried about our future. So, give us a break allright. We CAN think and decide for ourselves and all you have to do is give the QC (Quality Check) stamp.

6.Techno Freaks - Belive me, its not being a techno freak that matters. Its just knowing enough to be able to tell when the phone comapny is trying to cram your bills and why your computer wont start. Thats just technological GK. DFew of us are obsessed enough with technology to give it much conscious thought. Most of us (especially more so the girls) have have better things to do (like watch a game of football, or even better...play a game for the boys, beautify themselves or talk on the phone for the girls). The reason you feel we are addicted to technology is because we have grown up with the technology and can relate to it much better than you. For you, a black and white TV may have been a rare thing in your days of growing up, but for us, its a rare thing because people now use HDTV or Plasma TV. A color TV is owned by even people living in slums. So, grow up and start acting you age. Youre supposed to be mature adults. Act that way.

Any other problem you have with us teens, id like to hear them. Any point i have missed (im sure to have missed plenty), feel free to post a comment abd i shall presently counter the adults point of view. As an arrogant know-it-all teenager it is my right and i shall gladly excercise it.

Cheers!

In Defence of Teenagers (Part 1)

Yes...im a surly arrogant teenager.
I think i know everything and this entry is just to prove that point. All you adults have your serious ego problems dont you, in accepting that, maybe, just maybe, it is possible that you may be wrong and i, although younger than you, may be correct....
Lets dissect what you disagree with me on...
According to you, teenagers are -

1. RUDE- Excuse me sir, but im sorry to disagree with you. We have bad apples in every lot but the majority of us (atleast the ones i know), you will find, are waaaay politer than you "polite well behaved adults". Its only when you blatanly refuse to even hear our side of the argument that we are compelled to scream..just to get ourselves heard. And for the record, the upcoming generation...the one thats five years younger than me...are becoming headstrong, arrogant, jerks. They think no end of themselves and get away with a lot of stuff simply becuase they still look cute. Instead of spending your time and energies denouncing us teens who acoording to you are apparently "beyomd hope", show them the way to go.

2. ARROGANT - Sure...its part of the package and I am reminded of my arrogance once every day at the very least. What i find amazing is the source of this impression of arrogance. You adults say something. I know its factually flawed. You refuse to listen to me when i give you the solution to your problem. After a few trials you see that i was right. I smile. Hence i am arrogant. So being correct makes me arrogant. And heaven help me if i turn out to be wrong.
And please, lets not start about the technology point of view. I call up my ISP and pinpoint the problem why my net is down and how to fix it and what does the customer service guy say? "Sir, please delete cookies, clear cashe and try again"...I mean...I know the problem. I just told you...quit wasting my time and fix it. I just told you how to fix it as well. After a long drawn out procedure, it will turn out i am right again. This is just one example. There are many others from various aspects of life. Give us some credit. We are dodos, but not completely ignorant fools. We do know some things.

3. LANGUAGE - You seem to have a major problem with the language we use. Apparently its too abusive and the rest. Lets see where we picked it up from shall we?
Me and a group of my 'uncool, uncivilised barbaric' friends used to play football (ill explain why its the past tense in another entry). Ages varied from 6 years at the youngest to fourteen at the eldest. The 6yr old hit the football from the end of a 50 yard field and it hit this obese aunty who had refused to listen to our requests and move out of the field (Its probably because we requested that she didnt listen. The cool kids say "fat lady, get lost before you get hit. Cant you  see we're playting here?"). The ball rolled and hit her with all the force it may have had after rolling 50 yards when hit by a 6 year old. The language she treated us to was delightful. I had never before heard so many expletives and so many ways to use them.
Ask yourselves, if during the formative years of 6 to 14, this is the language we are treated to, is it any wonder that we use it ourselves?

That shall be enough for now. I shall continue this later.

DISCLAIMER: "Teens" and "adults" here has been generalised in response to the generalisation done by most adults as "all teens are arrogant fools with their head up in the air and all they do is spout bad language". This is my defense of those of us, who actually try to be good and for the most part succeed.
